Butterflies signify the coming of Spring and warm days. Through the ages they have fluttered into many a ladies heart and caught her fancy. This whimsical pin is completely hand made constructed almost entirely of silver wire creating a filigree butterfly. I've seen more contemporary pins very similar to this one but it has a few subtle differences giving clues to it's age. Notice the pin is a hinged T bar and the hook is a simple C without a fold over safety. Also the pin sticks out beyond the frame of the butterfly itself. These clues indicate this pin to be circa 1900. In very good condition with a lovely dark patina overall. There are no markings on this pin to indicate the silver content but it's probably around 850 or higher. Measures 1 3/4 X 1 inch. Beautiful!
