At least that is what it appears. The scrimshaw is of a sailing ship so perhaps it is in the shape of the pins used for holding ropes on a ship. It's beautifully carved and polished smooth. It measures 3-3/8" long and about 1/2" wide not including the bale. The bale is goldtone and is screwed into the top for extra secure.. It hangs on a necklace made of ivory also, with small beads and screw clasp. The beads are small so it's a great piece to use for other pendants as well. It's 30" long which is amazing on its own. Together these weigh 20 grams. Wonderful!
